About Us
January 1, 2012 we started a breed specific rescue named Second Chance Boxer Rescue. Within a short time we began rescuing other breeds and mixes of all sizes. It wasn’t long after that when a box of kittens showed up and needed rescue and then, four horses. As we grew we began reaching out to the community to help the homeless and impoverished with their pets. With that came educating the public about the benefits of spay/neuter and how to be a responsible pet owner.
After five years we had clearly outgrown our original objective of rescuing boxers. In October of 2016 we incorporated Second Chance Friends, Inc. (SCF) to better describe who and what we are. Our boxer friends should know we have not forgotten the wonderful breed we began with, we have only grown and also found room for the others.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us through out this journey. We hope you will continue to support our volunteers as we work hard daily to do all we can do to help the voiceless animals in Florida.
For the time being we can only adopt dogs to families living in these Florida counties;
Hillsborough, Polk, Pasco, Pinellas and Manatee
“Second Chance” is not a second chance for dogs, because that would presume they had a first chance and failed. The majority of the dogs we rescue never had any chances, first, second, or otherwise. The name of our rescue refers to giving humans a second chance to provide a safe, healthy, and loving home and environment for our dogs, since most of these dogs come to us after they have been abused or neglected by their owners.
SCF solely relies on volunteers to get the work done and no one receives compensation for their work. SCF receives no funding from the government or the United Way. Our adoption fees and donations from other dog lovers cover our costs.
